Enjoy A LEGO Christmas Countdown

The bricks needed for each build are included right on the challenge card included in the printable pack.

Whether your kids make it the way it is shown or come up with a new holiday LEGO design, is up to them. The fun is in the challenge, and I am excited to see what my son will build with his LEGO Advent Calendar!

Included in the printable brick advent pack is a fun countdown map. Why not build it out of LEGO to get started! Use a baseplate and basic bricks.

Come up with a design that includes a mini-figure that you can move each day. Get creative! You can do the projects in order, or cross off each project as they do them.

How To Make DIY LEGO Advent Calendar

You Will Need these Supplies:

• Printable LEGO Advent Calendar project cards (Purchase the pack here)
• Small paper bags, gift bags, or stockings, etc to hold LEGO bricks for the projects each day.
• Labels, gift tags, paper cut-outs, and clothespins to seal the bags (optional)
• LEGO! Classic LEGO sets are a favorite, like this one. (Amazon Affiliate)
• LEGO Classic Creative Color Fun 11032 -while this won’t help build all the models in the Advent Calendar pack, you can use your creativity. Plus, it’s an excellent addition to your collection at this price!

STEP 1. CREATE YOUR SETUP

How do you want to present the cards? Here are a few options…

• You can add one card a day to a mini stocking.
• You can hide the card for the day on the Christmas tree.
• You can grab small, numbered gift bags, tuck a card inside, and place in a large basket.
• Note: If you plan to purchase the Classic LEGO set recommended for the project as your starting point, you might want to grab a storage container as well.

STEP 2.  FILL THE BAGS

The best part of our printable LEGO countdown calendar is that you can make LEGO building ideas using the LEGO bricks you already have, or you can grab the set listed in the supplies list of you need more bricks. I have a list of suggestions to get you started and will show you the different designs we came up with.

I want this to be as fun and independent (as possible) for kiddos to do each day. The LEGO designs are simple and manageable. Older kids can make their LEGO Christmas builds as complicated and intricate as they wish as well as add more pieces!

Tips for filling your LEGO advent calendar bags:

• Prep. Add the exact bricks for very simple LEGO building ideas such as the ones you will see here like a candy cane, Santa hat, tree, Christmas candle, or snowman.
• Cards. Use the printable cards I created to see the projects completed and the bricks used to make them. They also include suggestions or changes to add to the day’s challenge too!
• Christmas Sets. You could also supplement with a few new Christmas LEGO sets. A larger LEGO Christmas set will have small elements kids can build and place out as a Christmas scene. This is more expensive. However, you will have plenty of supplies for years to come. I will put some suggestions at the end of this article.
• Older Kids. For older kids, adding bricks ahead of time may not be necessary.  Instead just have them use the printable building cards or refer to the pictures below.
• Work Together. Leave a LEGO note for a building challenge that you and your young child will do together. This will save you prep work beforehand but make sure you follow up on your offer!
