Explore Halloween Art With Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso was a painter, sculptor, printmaker, and ceramicist born in 1881 in Malaga, Spain. He spent most of his adult life working as an artist in France and died in 1973.
Picasso is one of the most influential artists in modern art. He created over 20,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics during his career. He is famous for the variety of styles that he helped develop, such as cubism and collage.
Cubism refers to art where the subject is broken up into different sections. It is called cubism because the items represented in the artwork look like they are made out of cubes and other geometric shapes.
Explore the fun side of Pablo Picasso this fall by creating your own Halloween pumpkins with playdough. Think about incorporating a bit of cubism into your design by using cubes and other geometric shapes.

The Origin of The Jack O’Lantern
The term ājack o lanternā was believed to have come from Britain, where it was used to describe a man with a lantern or a night watchman.
In those days, the British sometimes called men whose names they didn’t know by a common name like Jack. So, an unknown man carrying a lantern was sometimes called “Jack with the lantern” or “Jack of the lantern.”
It is thought the Irish started the tradition by carving out potatoes and turnips, then lit them with candles to ward off Jack’s wandering spirit.
When Irish immigrants came to America, they brought the practice with them using pumpkins. It became associated with Halloween.
